Native American Tuition Waiver

Eligible graduate students at Fort Lewis College may receive the Native American Tuition Waiver (NATW), which waives tuition for students who meet the eligibility requirements.

The NATW covers tuition only. Graduate students are responsible for fees and other educational expenses, including per-credit-hour fees, course-specific fees, books, and supplies.

Who is eligible for the NATW?

You may be eligible for the Native American Tuition Waiver if you are:

• an enrolled citizen of an American Indian Tribal Nation or Alaska Native Village recognized by the U.S. federal government; or
• the child of an enrolled citizen of a federally recognized American Indian Tribal Nation or Alaska Native Village.

How to apply as a graduate student

Once you are admitted to a Fort Lewis College graduate program, submit your NATW documentation to the Graduate Studies Office. You can document your eligibility in one of two ways:

If you are an enrolled Tribal citizen

Provide one of the following (Page 1 on the Graduate Studies NATW form):

• a copy of your Tribal Enrollment Card;
• a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB); or
• a letter from your Tribe verifying your enrollment

If you are the child of an enrolled Tribal citizen

Complete the Affirmation of Descendancy form and provide a copy of your parents’ Tribal enrollment documentation (Page 2 on the Graduate Studies NATW form).

Submit your documentation by the deadline

Graduate Studies must receive your NATW documentation no later than the start of the semester. The waiver cannot be applied after the deadline.
